Carara
Biological Reserve (4,700 hectares) is a transitions zone between
tropical rainforest and dry forest. It is laced by countless
rivers, from which the largest one is called
Tarcoles.
During
the rainy season, the Tarcoles floods the banks, creating a
large lagoon that quickly fills with water hyacinths. A sight
that should not be missed!
Crocodiles and caimans are
easily spotted along with plentybb of water wading birds. Howler
and spider monkeys are only a few of the animals that you can
see while you are
in Carara National Park.
Carara
is one of the few nesting areas remaining for the scarlet macaw.
Throughout the day, the macaws can always be heard and often
seen in flight, particularly around dusk. It is possible to
observe over 350
bird
species and numerous mammal species throughout
the year. |
On
the way to get there:

You
will make 2 interesting stops.
First
Stop: Monkey Watching
This
stop is made at a hotel called La Roca; there you will be able
to see some very nimbly monkeys closer than in wild nature.
Second
Stop: Crocodile
Bridge
At
this stop you will be standing on the Tarcoles river bridge,
and underneath your feet the crocodiles will be swimming and
waiting for prey.
Price:
US $25.00 per person transportation for the minimum of
4 person groups plus US $8.00 per person National Park
entrance fee.
